“I’m proud to be a part of a community that values its students’ achievements as much as their health and safety. Thanks to this memorable event, my journey at IU was sealed with a brand-new understanding of flexibility, resilience and gratitude.”

-Georgina Waller ’20

Though it required extra creativity and persistence this year, Immaculata University held commencement ceremonies last Nov. 15. Following local health and safety protocols, the IU community gathered outdoors, putting extra space between chairs and replacing handshakes with elbow bumps. And not even the masks could hide graduates’ smiles.

“I sincerely appreciated the ‘proper send-off’ that President Lettiere promised us,” commented Jeffrey M. Powell-Young ’20, who earned his B.S. in business and human resource management.

“You’re braver than you think, more talented than you know and more capable than you could ever imagine,” President Barbara Lettiere ’72 told graduates.

Judith Witt, Ph.D., former program director at Immaculata who created an endowed faculty development fund, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, and pediatric and transplant surgeon Maria Alonso ’78, M.D., received the Immaculata Medal.

“After these tough few months, it was really touching to see the hard work of myself and my fellow classmates honored with such joy and respect.”

-Yaniv Aronson ’20, Ed.D.
